Punting

Mary Potter's depiction of Punting from 36 sketches of Oxford Life

We went punting today in the afternoon at the Magdalen Bridge Boathouse.  Definitely it was a great adventure with our honorable captain Kristin. Although it was not as easy as it looks, it would be an unforgettable experience for me in Oxford. Punting through the crowds of people in the narrow river path with bushes and trees was not easy at all. I tried but failed miserably and totally lost control of the pole. I was terribly sorry for  my poor friends on board who then got stuck into the bushes. Not a pleasant experience at the moment. :(

But there were many good things about punting once you have managed to punt with dignity (not like me who totally lost control of the pole): have a light picnic on the boat, ride along with the ducks, geese and occasional swans or even have your little race. Or even waving at the people on shore.(We ran into a group of Japanese students watching the people punting and then greeted them with our limited Japanese ability. It was hilarious.) Punting could bring all sorts of fun in a sunny afternoon. :) Anyway, it was a unique experience and worthwhile  trying if you had the chance to go punting!

Happy faces!
